- 1). Allow new concrete to cure for at least two weeks before applying heat-resistant sealer.
- 2). Wash the concrete with organic, acid concrete cleaner to prepare the surface for sealer application. Allow the countertop to fully dry.
- 3). Put on protective clothes to shield your skin from contact with potentially harmful solvents. Open windows and turn on fans to ventilate the kitchen so that sealer vapors are not allowed to accumulate.
- 4). Stir the sealer thoroughly with a stir stick.
- 5). Apply the sealer to the countertop with a high-quality roller with a 3/8-inch nap or with a paintbrush with polyester bristles. Spread the sealer with long, slightly overlapping strokes. Do not overwork the sealer -- simply lay it on in thin, uniform consistency. Do not allow the sealer to puddle.
- 6). Leave the sealer to cure for three hours and apply a second coat. Leave the final coat to cure for 48 hours for light use and one week for heavy use.
- 7). Clean used tools with soap and water.
- 8). Reseal the countertop when you see the finish wearing off or when you notice water no longer beading up on the surface. Clean the concrete thoroughly and sand it lightly with 200-grit sandpaper before resealing.
