DIY:How to Refinish Aluminum Alloy
- 1). Scrub down the entire aluminum alloy surface to eliminate the risk of adhesion problems due to dust and unseen oils. Wash the alloy with a degreaser using a nylon pad.
- 2). Rinse the degreaser from the alloy, using either a hose or wet rags. Dry the alloy with towels.
- 3). Slide drop cloths underneath the aluminum alloy surface. Protect adjacent and nearby surfaces from overspray by shielding them, using painter's masking paper and tape.
- 4). Treat the aluminum alloy with a galvanized metal etching spray primer. Add a thin coating, maintaining 8 inches between the alloy and spraying tip. Let the alloy dry for three hours.
- 5). Finish the aluminum alloy with either an oil-based spray enamel or spray epoxy finish. Add a thin coating, maintaining 8 inches between the alloy and spraying tip. Let the alloy dry for three hours.
