• Chalkboards aren't just for classrooms anymore. Chalkboard paint is readily available at most places where paint are sold; it even comes in spray paint form. Use chalkboard paint to create decorative elements for a child's bedroom, your entryway, the kitchen or the playroom.
  
  

Chalkboard Easel

• Recycle an old baby crib into a functional piece of furniture for your child's bedroom. Take the crib apart and set aside everything but the ends. Sand and paint the ends of the crib a fun color that coordinates with the existing bedroom decor. Paint the center of the ends with a couple of coats of chalkboard paint. Place the ends of the crib together and turn them into a chalkboard easel with a couple of hinges placed at the top so the ends fold out to form a tent shape. Nail a little ledge at the bottom of each side of the chalkboard easel to hold pieces of chalk. Now your child has an entertaining chalkboard easel with two sides so she can use it with a friend.
  
  

Family Message Board

• Transform an unattractive piece of art in an attractive frame from a thrift store into a family message board. Protect the frame with masking tape. Sand the glass protecting the artwork to give the paint a surface it can grip. Paint a couple coats of chalkboard paint over the top of the glass. Remove the tape from the frame and tape off the outside edges of the chalkboard surface if you wish to paint the frame a different color. Hang the chalkboard message board in a central part of your home, such as the kitchen or near the entryway. Place a piece or two of chalk on the ledge of the frame.
  
  

Closet Doors

• Give your children a wall they really can color on with some chalkboard paint. Paint the closet doors in your children's bedrooms with chalkboard paint. Paint the closet door in the playroom or game room with chalkboard paint. Nail a small wooden box to the wall next to the closet to hold chalk.
  
  

Chalkboard Calendar

• A calendar helps to keep all your important appointments organized, but it only works if you look at the calendar. Create a calendar you can't help but look at. Use different shades or colors of chalkboard paint to create a large calender grid on your wall in the kitchen or office. Each month, fill in the calendar grid with the name of the month, dates and appointments you have scheduled. Now everyone in the family can easily see what has to be done and when.
