  In the "Super Mario Brothers" game, there was a level in which the Mario character was very small and everything else was unusually large, as if Mario had shrunk. For a cute teen twist inspired by the old game, use a pencil to sketch huge, stylized floor-to-ceiling toadstool mushrooms, blades of grass, flowers, and ground denizens like ants and frogs. Paint the background a light sky blue. Paint the decorations in bright colors. Choose furniture colors and fabrics that match the toadstools.

  Many teens read the classic kids' book "Mr. Popper's Penguins" when they were young, and saw the documentary film "March of the Penguins," which featured emperor penguins waddling, sliding and caring for their adorable fluffy chicks. For a mega dose of bedroom cuteness, paint the walls glossy white to evoke the icy plains of Antarctica, and paint life-size emperor penguins---and a few chicks---marching around the walls. Types of penguins include emperor, king, fairy, rockhopper, Humboldt and Galapagos penguins. If you don't have the time or artistic talent to paint a bunch of penguins, hire a professional muralist or make a giant stencil. To partially fill the blank walls above the penguins, stencil a penguin-related quote.
  
  

Candy Shop

  Paint a narrow wall with the red and white or red and pink diagonal strips of a candy cane. Make the main room color pink, candy-apple red, tart green or banana-split yellow. Choose candy colors for the furniture, curtains, and decorative accessories too. A variation for a young baker is a bakery or cupcake shop theme. Instead of a candy border, stencil cheery cupcakes along the top of the room. Display bouquets of homemade rock candy in vases.
