House Mice: How To Keep Them Out!

102 11
Keeping your home safe does not just mean being secured from burglars and thieves. There is another intruder that often goes undetected. What this trespasser takes may be morsels of items but if found out and detected the shriek and horrors of those living in your home will be definitely heard. House mice are a problem, and potentially, it is a major one. However cute house mice may be, and if you are thinking like those lab mice we see that are sacrificed for the greater good of humanity, they are a danger because they grow up to be rats. These pests can contaminate the food you have in your household, and in doing so, they can give you disease, sometimes fatal ones. Aside from that, the excrement of these rodents is also dangerous if ingested, and it does happen. How bad can they be?

The source of the black plague or the bubonic plague was deemed to be due to rats and their excrement. This was discovered centuries after the disease had ravaged most of Europe, killing thousands of people and making countries paranoid of immigrants coming from countries that had been hit by this contagious disease. These days there are several things that one can do to minimize this invasion to your home. Here are some tips that may be useful to you:

- Keep your homes clean. Try not leaving too much clutter in the household. Having such matter in your homes make it easy for household mice to set camp in such places. There are so many places these rats can hide and having your homes messy only makes it more convenient and easier for them to start a home.

- Cover up any unnecessary holes. Place screens in your holes especially rain pipes and gutter holes. By having that type of screen, it lessens the chances of mice using that aperture to enter your harm. Mice and Rats have very flexible vertebrae and they can bend and squeeze through holes that are as big as their heads. Be aware when purchasing screens

- When using poisonous items to kill mice, make sure that they can't be found by children. Some rat poisons are laced with sugar and it may be possible that a child accidentally finds this and ingests it, which is equally as dangerous to them. For older children, teaching them what the poison is and reminding them to stay away from it is one good measure.

There are no guarantees that your home will never be invaded by house mice, but with good maintenance practices, you minimize the chances for this burglary to happen.
