- 1). Turn the Ebow on using the switch located on the front. You can use the standard mode to sustain a note, or the harmonic mode that will sustain the harmonic of the note.
- 2). Place the Ebow on the desired guitar string. Placement is key. If you place it directly above your pickup you can generate feedback. This may be a desired effect, but for sustaining a note, place the Ebow between frets.
- 3). Do not press down hard on the Ebow. Ideally, you want the Ebow to hover over the intended string, so that it vibrates the string. The Ebow will sit on top of the bordering two strings and hover over the intended string. It may take a few tries to get the hang of it.
- 4). Move your finger up and down the fretboard to change the note being played. The Ebow complements sliding because it allows the note to continue.
- 5). Move the Ebow back and forth slightly. This will produce the audible effect of a bow being used on your guitar.
