How to Run Check Disk Utility in Windows Vista

    • 1). Click the Windows Vista "Start" button found on the task bar. The Vista "Start Menu" opens.

    • 2). Select "Computer" inside the menu. The "Computer" window opens.

    • 3). Right-click the disk icon you wish to check (For example Disk "C"). A menu appears.

    • 4). Choose "Properties" inside the menu. The "Properties" menu opens.

    • 5). Click "Tools" at the top of the window. Then, click "Check Now" inside the "Error-Checking" box located inside the window. A "Check Disk" window opens.

    • 6). Click the boxes next to "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" if you want to enable either option during the disk scan. Select neither if you wish to simply check the selected disk.

    • 7). Click "Start." An alert window appears. Choose the "Schedule disk check" option inside the alert window. Then, click the task bar "Start" button again. Click the arrow positioned to the right of the "Shut down" tab inside the Start Menu. A menu appears. Choose "Restart." The computer restarts and the check disk utility runs.
