- 1). Crawl under the rear section of your Toyota Highlander.
- 2). Locate and remove the tie-down brackets that mount to the frame rails by removing their bolts with a wrench. Discard the tie-down brackets. There are three bolts on each frame rail. These holes are where the new hitch will be installed.
- 3). Place the washers that came with the hitch kit onto the bolts removed in Step 2.
- 4). Lift the hitch into position under the frame rails. Align the mounting holes in the hitch with the holes in the frame rails. Install the bolts and tighten them with a torque wrench to 36 ft.-lbs.
