Study Wolf Anatomy

• 1). Observe a reference picture of a wolf. You can find a reference picture online or in books and nature magazines. Look at any features that stand out to you and take note of body parts that are challenging to draw, such as the snout, body, and legs of the wolf.
  
  
• 2). Sketch parts of the wolf's body quickly. Do not try to create a complete picture. Focus on understanding and visualizing the form and shape of each body part. Sketch the front and back legs of the wolf and practice bending the joints in different directions. Sketch the wolf's snout at different angles and the body in different poses.
  
  
• 3). Practice drawing the outline of the wolf's body. Work as quickly as possible with your pencil and avoid drawing inner details of the wolf. Sketch different fur patterns onto the outlines. Continue to practice until you feel comfortable drawing the wolf picture.
  
  

Draw Your Wolf

• 1). Sketch the rough draft of the wolf. Draw a circle to map out the wolf's head. Sketch a smaller circle on the tip of the head to map the snout. Draw a line extending from the back of the head to map out the wolf's spine. Create the torso and hind quarters of the wolf by drawing two circles along the spine. Map out the legs of the wolf by drawing two lines extending from the torso, and two lines extending from the hips.
  
  
• 2). Pencil the outline of the wolf using the rough draft as a guide. Sketch the snout and ears onto the wolf's head. Mark the wolf's nose with a triangle shape at the tip of the snout. Follow the spine to create the body of the wolf. Make sure to draw the bend in the wolf's back and draw the outline of the fur on the wolf's chest. Draw the legs starting from the shoulders and work downward to the paws. Make sure the upper part of the legs are thicker than a lower parts. Sketch the shape of the wolf's tail using the hind legs as a guide.
  
  
• 3). Draw the details of the wolf's face. Sketch in the eyes at the base of the wolf's snout. Draw them small and narrow to capture the likeness of a wolf. Shade in the pupils of the wolf with a pencil. Create the mouth of the wolf, make sure the mouth follows the shape of the snout for a natural look. Add fur on the sides of the wolf's face by drawing zigzag lines on the outline.
  
  
• 4). Erase the markings of the rough draft. Add fur to the wolf by drawing zigzag lines along the outline. Map different fur colors along the wolf by separating parts of the body with zigzag lines. Add four toes to each leg by drawing curved lines along the tip of the paws. Look over the picture and correct any mistakes you find.
  
  
• 5). Darken the outline by tracing over the lines hard with a pencil. Erase any extra smudges and pencil markings found in the picture. Create a detailed fur coat by drawing small lines along the inside of the wolf. Use the fur patterns drawn previously as a guide and work slowly. Follow the shape of the wolf to give the fur a realistic look. Make some parts of the fur darker than others by pressing harder with the pencil when drawing the lines.
