How to Put a Ring Guard on a Ring

    Metal Ring Guard

    • 1). Hold the ring guard lengthwise between a thumb and forefinger. Each small arm of the metal ring guard should be pointed up, with one resting against your thumb and the other resting against your forefinger. The long, flat surface of the ring guard will be positioned between your thumb and forefinger.

    • 2). Hold the ring in your other hand and bring it toward the ring guard. Hold the ring so the edge of its circular opening will rest on top of the long, flat surface of the ring guard. Grip the ring with your thumb and forefinger while you maintain a hold on the ring guard. You should now be holding the ring guard, with the edge of the ring resting on top of it.

    • 3). Pick up the needle-nose pliers or tweezers with your free hand. Using the pliers or tweezers, bend each small, metal arm of the ring guard, one at a time, so that each wraps tightly around the edge of the ring.

    • 4). Push your finger gently into the ring opening, pressing against the surface of the ring guard. The ring guard will bend toward the ring band enough to allow your finger to fit securely into the ring opening. Do this with the finger that will wear the ring, to ensure a precise fit.

    Plastic Ring Guard

    • 1). Hold the plastic ring guard tightly in the palm of your hand for about a minute. This will warm the plastic, allowing you to work with it more easily.

    • 2). Using the edge of the ring opening, gently press the ring against the slit in the plastic ring guard until the opening is large enough to allow the ring's band to slip in.

    • 3). Adjust the plastic ring guard by sliding it along the band until it rests at the bottom of the ring, where it will be concealed when the ring is worn.
