How to Do Pageant Hair From Rollers

    • 1). Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner tailored to your hair type. Blot your hair dry with a towel. Do not rub it, as this can cause the hair to break and create fly-aways.

    • 2). Shake a bottle of mousse to mix it and squeeze a plum-size amount into your palm. Rub your hands together and work the mousse through your hair. Comb the mousse through your hair to distribute it evenly. Set the hairdryer to a warm setting and dry the mousse into the hair.

    • 3). Separate your hair into four sections: right crown, left crown, right nape and left nape. Secure all sections, with the exception of the right nape, with hair clips. Comb a section of the hair from the right nape outward. The section should be no larger than the length of the roller. Spray the section of hair lightly with hair spray.

    • 4). Wind the section around the end of the hot roller, tucking in the ends. Roll the hair to the scalp; this will create root lift and a bouncier curl. Repeat the process until the entire right nape is secure. Move through the rest of the hair using the same method of combing, spraying and rolling until the entire head is covered. Always make sure the rollers are rolled to the scalp to create volume, because pageant hair is big.

    • 5). Apply a coat of hairspray to the hair once all the rollers are in place. Leave the rollers in until they cool completely, typically 10 minutes. This closes the cuticle of the hair and sets the curl.

    • 6). Remove the rollers by unrolling, not tugging or pulling, them. This keeps the curl intact. Brush through your hair with a paddle brush to add additional volume and create large waves. Style your hair as you prefer.
