How to Convert Regular Jeans Into Maternity Jeans
- 1). Put the jeans on and see how far the zip up. Mark the zipper line with chalk and take off the jeans.
- 2). Draw a half moon shape with chalk, starting at the zipper mark as the lowest point. This half moon will be the part of the jeans that fits under your belly. You don't have to do anything to the back.
- 3). Stitch with your thread and needle over top of the chalk line.
- 4). Cut off the top front of your jeans with scissors above the stitched line.
- 5). Wrap the piece of knit fabric (it should have a high spandex or Lycra content) lengthwise just under your belly to see the length you need, and then sew the ends together so you have a circle that easily fits just above your hips. You don't want it to fit snugly, but without stretching if you still have a long way to grow.
- 6). Sew the elastic band in at the top of your jeans and try them on.
