How to Make Different Styles of Hair Bows
- 1). Determine how the hair will be styled. When making hair bows, use a headband when wearing hair down and pulling only the bangs or front back, use a barrette when a portion of the hair such as the top and sides are being pulled up and opt for an elastic band if pulling all hair back in to a ponytail.
- 2). Choose the bow type you will need to match the hair style and outfit. A simple, two loop bow works best for headbands as it lies flat against the top of the head. A multiple loop bow adds flair to a ponytail in the back of the head.
- 3). Select the material for the bow based on color and design. Lace works well for flat bows, such as those attached to a headband. Wire edge ribbon helps create fuller bows for larger bows to wear in the back of the head. Consider unique materials to craft a bow, such as pipe cleaners, film strips, strips of cellophane or strips of fabric. Crafting a bow can be done with any piece of material which is pliable and at least 24 inches in length.
- 4). Attach the bow to the base depending on how the bow will be secured to your head. Use a hot glue gun for attaching bows to barrettes and headbands. Opt for string to secure bows to ponytail holders and make sure the knot is hidden underneath the bow and not seen while worn.
