DIY Bamboo Fencing

    • 1). Mark the route of the fence on the ground with mason's string and use chalk to mark the line every 6 feet to get the position of the fence posts.

    • 2). Dig a fence post hole that is 2-foot deep at every point marked on the fence route using a post hole digger, or auger if you've decided on the less labor-intensive course.

    • 3). Insert a fence post (4-by-4 inch lumber, 8 feet long) into the first hole and use a level to achieve a vertical position. Fill the hole around the post with soil and pack it down tightly with a shovel. Repeat on all the post holes.

    • 4). Place the edge of the rolled bamboo fencing on the first fence post, with the bulk of the roll facing the other fence posts.

    • 5). Hammer in a 1-inch flat-head nail every foot along the fence post to secure the edge of the bamboo roll to the post.

    • 6). Unroll enough of the fencing to reach the next post and pull it tight so it is stretched between the fence posts. Tack another six nails into the fence post to fasten the roll in place and stretch it to the next post.

    • 7). Continue unrolling the fencing and attaching it to the fence posts. When the roll runs out, cut it off at the last post it was attached to and start the next roll from this point. Don't attempt to join two rolls between posts, as this will make for a flimsy fence.

    • 8). Cut three bits of galvanized wire with wire cutters to around 30 inches. Insert each end of a piece of wire through the bamboo fencing around a fence post, in a "U" shape. Slide the wire onto the fence so that the curve of the "U" is around the post and twine the ends together. Do this so there is one piece of wire approximately 5 inches from the top and bottom of the post and one in the middle. Repeat on all posts.
