How to Get More Stability in the Ankle of a Cowboy Boot
- 1). Stand and test the boot fit by pulling them up. The boots should not slip into your feet easily; rather, you should pull them up with a little effort. A properly fitting boot will fit snugly at the top of your foot, prevent your toes from sliding forward, and avoid loss of stability in your ankles.
- 2). Determine where the ball of your foot stands in the boots that you are wearing. The ball of the foot is the widest area of the foot just below the toes. The ball of your foot should fit comfortably at the widest area on the boot to ensure arch support and wearer comfort. Try a different size if the ball your foot is ahead of, or behind, the widest area on the boot.
- 3). Examine the stitching around the outsole of the boot to ascertain that the width is correct. You should be able to view the stitch all around the outsole of the boot while wearing them. Your feet should touch the stitch, but not push it -- if your smallest toe covers the stitch or if you cannot see the stitches around the sole, the boots are too tight and you should try a wider pair of boots.
