How to Get a Headshot for Modeling

    • 1). Search online and in the yellow pages for local photographers who take headshots. Hire a professional photographer who knows what agencies are looking for. If you know other people who have sat for headshots, ask them about their experiences with different photographers. Compare prices and deals, but do not make a decision until you have visited the photographer in person.

    • 2). Meet with various photographers. You need to take your headshot with someone who makes you feel comfortable and natural -- if you are uneasy during the shoot, it will show in the pictures. Avoid someone who tries to pressure you. Ask questions about what you will be getting for your money. The photographer should not just dictate shots to you; rather, she should work with you and consider your opinions.

    • 3). Choose clothing and makeup that reflect your personality. Try different styles and hairdos, but if a look makes you feel uncomfortable, don't try it. Good headshots will represent the best side of you and your personality to potential agents -- your headshots will not only make you look good, but they won't make you look younger or substantially different. Avoid ostentatious jewelry, makeup, scenery, lighting and anything else that will distract from your face.
