Are there never quite enough hours in the day? Do you always think that you need more done on a day to day basis? By looking at your time management, you can make a huge difference to your dealings.
Getting the most out of your time has always been imperative within a successful business, and by managing your time correctly you will become a more successful leader - and company.
Time management has become big business now as people come up with new ways to divide time, motivate and focus on tasks to get them concluded quicker.
From the time you are a student heading into exams, your time suddenly became important.
What can you do in the workplace? Here are a few things to consider.
Organize Don't be afraid to set goals, setting goals means you know what the end product must look like.
Organization is a scary word to some people, and those who fail to specify objectives over a certain time frame are those most likely to struggle with their time management as a whole.
Figuring out where you need to get to is often the easy part; the worrying part is what you have to overcome to get there.
Generally, it is a marathon sort of task and when that happens you have to break your aims into easily attainable goals.
Get there step by step.
After you've set these goals, review them.
Review them before you begin, review them after the first stage until completion.
The worst thing to do is to organize and then forget to refer to what you have written in from of you.
Always have the aims at hand and keep focused.
Part of the review process is to review everybody and the project separately.
Who's pulling their weight? Who isn't? Are you improving and helping the team? And once you have that on track, then you can ask.
How have our objectives changed? Are we on course for the set completion date? Delegate When you make plans to deal with poor time management, never take too much on.
That may be the issue in the first place.
Some people genuinely don't have enough hours in the day to get through what they need to do.
Make sure that you are focused but let the team in, give them the responsibility to work on as much as you can allow to delegate.
Use your technical, specialist or administrative staff whenever possible, you've hired them for a reason.
However, always remember to make sure that they know exactly what needs to be done, like you, and when it needs to be finished.
Once delegated, don't forget about the task.
Ultimately, you have leadership of it.
With this in mind, ask questions, take an interest and leave your door open for the staff.
By sorting the task timelines the person in question will know when X has to be done, and when to move on to Y and Z.
Never expect that there won't be any questions.
However clear it is in your head, that might not come across when you tell your staff.
Remember that questions are good, the more they know, the closer to the perfect output you are going to be.
