    Accessibility Permits

    • An Accessibility Permit allows access to some areas closed off to private vehicles and also functions as a parking permit for designated spaces. Visitors can obtain a permit at park entrances, the Visitor Center at Canyon View Information Plaza, Yavapai Observation Station, Kolb Studio, El Tovar registration desk and the Bright Angel Lodge transportation desk.

    Park Resources

    • Wheelchairs are provided at no cost for day use and can be found at the South Rim at Canyon View information center, North Rim at the Visitor Center and the Grand Canyon Lodge. Also, a paper version of the accessibility policies of the park are available upon arrival or request.

Visitors who are not part of a guided tour or don't have their own transportation can use an on-call Paratransit Service if they need mobility assistance. These shuttles require reservations made a day in advance; call (928) 638-0591.

    Touring the Park

    • One option for enjoying the park is taking a guided tour via bus. These tours are provided by Grand Canyon National Park Lodges. Wheelchair-accessible rides must be arranged in advance; call (928) 638-2631. To access paved paths with outstanding views, visit the South Rim of the park, particularly the Greenway Trail. Check the roster of ranger-led programs, as many of them are accessible.

It may also be worth checking with local river-tour companies to see if any of their smooth-water trips are appropriate for people with limited mobility.

    Other Activities

    • Take a sweeping journey through the development of the Grand Canyon with the IMAX presentation delivered by National Geographic films. You'll be able to enjoy this epic presentation year-round while gaining knowledge of the Canyon's first inhabitants and the first Europeans to discover it. The National Geographic Visitor Center is located on Highway 64, south of the park entrance. Call (928) 638-2203 for more information and showing times.

If you're visiting during the winter holiday season, you'll find no shortage of festivities. The 20-foot tree in the lobby of the El Tovar Hotel lobby provides a perfect backdrop to their annual New Years Eve party, while the roaring fireplace in the Bright Angel Lodge is the perfect place to kick back with some spiced egg nog.
