Sometimes the fine line between minor or major traffic violations can be confusing or blurred. While there are many different types of traffic violations, some are more serious than others. It's important for drivers to understand the difference, and to know what is considered a minor violation compared to a major violation, so you can be prepared if you ever find yourself in trouble. - A lot of minor traffic violations begin with driving. These include driving an uninsured vehicle, driving with an expired or otherwise invalid driver's license, driving with tinted windows, driving a vehicle containing expired license plates, or driving a vehicle without registration or with invalid registration. While all of these are considered minor traffic violations, a driver can still receive a substantial ticket for any of these offenses.
- Another group of minor traffic violations has to do with failures. These include the failure to present a valid driver's license, failure to maintain adequate control over a vehicle, failure to use a turn signal, failure to stop for a pedestrian to cross, failure to yield in a right of way, or failure to submit a report after an accident. Again, while these are minor violations, tickets can and most likely will be issued to drivers in violation of any of these things.
- Some other minor traffic violations are associated with improper issues, such as improper blowing of a vehicle horn, improper backing up, improper passing of another vehicle, improper inspection sticker, or license plates that are improperly displayed on a vehicle.
- The remainder of minor traffic violations include blocking traffic, disobeying traffic lights or other traffic signals, being in possession of a vehicle with faulty equipment such as a defective exhaust or signal device, following too closely behind another vehicle, parking violations, or spinning the wheels of a vehicle intentionally.
