104 4
    • 1). Find the studs in the wall with a stud finder. Mark the location of the studs with a pencil.

    • 2). Lift the base cabinets into place. Place a long level on top of the cabinet. Check the cabinet to see if it is level and plumb. Slip wooden shims under the cabinet to level it.

    • 3). Secure the base cabinet in place with 2½-inch screws. Use an electric screwdriver to drive the screws through the cabinet and into the wall studs. Cut away protruding shims with a utility knife.

    • 4). Install the other base cabinets in the same manner. Connect the cabinets together by clamping the sides of the cabinet with a large clamp. Screw the cabinets together with 1½-inch screws.

    • 5). Measure the top of the base cabinets with a measuring tape. Transfer the measurements to a large hardwood board. Cut the board to size on a table saw.

    • 6). Sand and stain the board to match the finish on the base cabinets.

    • 7). Set the finished board on top of the base cabinets. Secure the board to the top of the cabinets with screws. Climb under the cabinets to find the corner brackets. Place the screws through the corner brackets and into the finished hardwood board.
