How to Set Up CD Turntables
- 1). Connect the CD turntables to a mixer by connecting RCA cables into the proper inputs. Locate one end of the RCA cable and insert that end into the output ports on each end of the CD turntables. The outputs are color coded so connecting the right cables will be easy. Locate the other end of the cables and insert them into the inputs on the mixer.
- 2). Setup your headphones by inserting the headphone plug into the mixer in the proper location. The plug will be marked with either a headphone icon or by the words "Headphone Input." Secure the plug so the sound will come through clean and undistorted through the headphones.
- 3). Place a CD on each turntable. Listen through the headphones to make sure you are hearing the sound coming through the headphones. Listen through the speakers and make sure each CD is coming through the speakers that the audience will hear.
- 4). Cue your CDs to the point on the CD from which you wish to begin mixing them. Play the CDs simultaneously to begin the process.
- 5). Slide the fader all the way toward one CD turntable. In doing this, you restrict the playback that is coming through the speakers to the turntable you have slid the fader toward. The sound from the other CD turntable will be played through your headphones, which is called monitoring your turntable.
- 6). Slide the fader toward the other turntable. This will have the opposite effect by now playing the CD that was playing through your headphones through the speakers and vice versa for the opposite CD. You can slide the mixer rapidly for a quick transition or slide the fader slowly to perform what is called a blend transition, which will blend the sound from both CDs.
