The piano is one of the finest and greatest musical instruments for classical music and not only. This is because even though this musical instrument may provide classical music with an outstanding sound in playing low and high notes, it is also used in other kinds of music as the sound of its stopples is irreplaceable and provides a special touch of the music played at a certain time.

The history of the instrument dates back more than a hundred years ago when it was first introduced in the form of a so called harpsichord. This was the first image of the piano that consisted of a plucking mechanism for rendering the sounds of stopples instead of the little hammers that constitute the sound generators for the instrument nowadays. The first ones to start the classical pieces dedicated to the instrument are Hayden and Mozart, who actually composed and played their musical works on the primordial form of the piano, represented by the harpsichord. This was the beginning of the history if this instrument, and even if the harpsichord was not able to play the pieces so loud and clear as the modern piano, the works were composed in such a high note quality that the sound was fantastic even played this traditional way.

The predecessors in piano compositions were Schumann, Chopin and last but not least the master Beethoven, who all participated in the expanding repertoire of the magical instrument represented by the piano. All of their classical music works, along with those belonging to other masters of piano like Ravel or Debussy, have constituted the main pieces that provided the instrument with the great sound characteristics and the outstanding tones that we are still enjoying today.

There are a few piano producers in the world who have a notable history in creating this instrument in a professional and thorough manner. These producing companies are usually small companies based on manufacture, as the component pieces of the instrument need to be done in the traditional way of carving in wood. The assembling of the instruments is also to be considered as a skilful procedure, and for this reason we may consider that the creation of a complete piano is one of the most complex crafts and after all it can be considered as a real art. The piano production industry is a complex one if we regard the existence of designers, manufacturers, testers and all the other additional jobs required for the proper production and commercialization of this great musical instrument.
