Some people have extra sensitive skin, making it difficult for them to find products at the drugstore to meet their sensitive-skin needs. There are, however, products you can use or create to care for your skin naturally. If you decide to purchase "natural" products, read the ingredient list carefully to ensure there are no harsh chemicals in the products. Chemicals are often added to give products a longer shelf life. If you truly want to go natural, however, use items at home to make your own natural cleansers, toners and moisturizers. - Natural skin toners give the skin a deeper cleansing than using just soap alone. If you decide to purchase a natural toner, ensure that it is truly made with natural ingredients. To make a natural toner at home, use items such as witch hazel, cucumber juice, crushed alum, rose water, orange-blossom water, boiled mint water, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and grated potato. According to the Natural Beauty website, rose water has a tightening effect and nourishes the skin; orange-blossom water is a mild astringent; cucumber juice contains vitamins and sulfur to disinfect the skin; apple cider vinegar loosens dead skin cells to unblock pores; and boiled mint water can freshen and clarify oily skin. Many women often use witch hazel alone to cleanse the pores and is a good old stand-by when you don't have anything else around the house. Make your own toner by mixing together any chosen natural items.
- There are many natural products that can be used to cleanse the face and body. If your local health supply store has "natural" skin cleansers you can purchase, double check the ingredient list to ensure it is truly made with all natural products. Otherwise, use natural products in the comfort of your home. Milk, yogurt, honey, papaya, cucumber, coffee, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and eggs can all be used to cleanse the skin. According to The Green Beauty Guide website, the lactic acid in yogurt and milk make ideal cleansers, especially when mixed with the antibacterial properties of honey. To make a cleanser with these items, simply grate or grind them, mixing them together in any combination. The coffee grounds will help exfoliate the skin and increase blood flow because of the caffeine. An egg can be used as a mask after cleansing to remove contaminates from the pores. It tightens on the skin as it dries, attaching to dirt and oil and pulling it out of the pores.
- A natural moisturizer adds needed pliability to the skin after cleansing or using a toner, but without the use of harsh chemicals and irritants. Some items you can use to moisturize your skin include jojoba oil, olive oil, vitamin E, sesame oil, avocado oil, honey, cocoa butter, beeswax, coconut oil, and macadamia extract. According to the Natural Skin Care website, coconut oil is rich in vitamins and fats to moisturize the skin; sesame oil protects the skin from the sun; honey retains water; avocado oil is loaded with vitamins and minerals; macadamia extract has natural antioxidants cocoa butter helps smooth the damaging effects of the sun; and beeswax boosts the skin's natural oil supply. Olive oil smooths the skin and jojoba oil is rich in vitamin E. Mix any combination of these products together to make your own personalized natural moisturizer.
