How to Change to Bullnose Corners
- 1). Setup the stepladder next to the corner of the wall so that you can reach the top of the corner during the corner removal and installation process. Put on the dust mask.
- 2). Run your hand along the corner of the drywall to find the leading edge of the existing corner bead. It is typically about one inch from the corner on either side. Cut along this line with a utility knife to separate the corner bead from the paint and plaster.
- 3). Locate the screws that are fastening the corner bead to the drywall. They are typically spaced about every foot on either side of the corner. You may need to chip away some of the paint and plaster with the utility knife or screwdriver to find them.
- 4). Unscrew all of the screws fastening the corner bead to the wall. Insert the pry bar screwdriver behind the corner bead and pry it off the drywall. Sand the corner to remove any large bumps or raised drywall paper.
- 5). Measure and mark the height of your trim on the baseboard adapter. Cut along this line with tin snips. Spray adhesive on the inside of the baseboard adapter and the bottom corner of the wall. Push the baseboard adapter onto the corner and hold for 20 seconds.
- 6). Measure and mark a section of bullnose corner bead to fit from the top of the baseboard adapter to the top of the wall. Cut along this line with tin snips.
- 7). Spray adhesive on the inside of the bullnose corner bead and along the corner of the wall. Push the corner bead onto the wall and hold for 20 seconds. Allow the adhesive to dry for the recommended time found on the adhesive can.
- 8). Apply plaster to the end of the flat trowel so that it is about half full. Position the trowel at the top of the wall so that the trowel is just past the corner's edge. Pull the trowel down the wall to apply a smooth coat of plaster. Repeat this process until both sides of the corner are covered in plaster.
- 9). Place a small amount of plaster on the end of the bullnose trowel. Position the trowel at the top of the corner and pull down the wall to apply a smooth coat of plaster and create the rounded edge.
- 10
Allow the plaster to dry overnight and smooth with sandpaper.
