How to Put Up Bathroom Tiles
- 1). Clean off the wall (or the floor) where you are putting up the tiles. Scrub the area with bathroom cleaner and a cleaning brush and wipe it dry with a clean cloth.
- 2). Apply adhesive onto the surface using the notched end of a trowel; work in a small area of 2 to 3 square feet at a time. This will give you ample time to work with the adhesive without it drying out before you can get to that area.
- 3). Place the first tile on the bottom left side of the project area; apply slight to moderate pressure with a gentle twisting motion to ensure it is secured into the adhesive.
- 4). Place spacers at the corners of the tile and move towards the right to complete the first row of tiles, with vinyl spacers in between each tile. Continue to the next row on the left side and set the tiles the entire area is covered; allow the adhesive to set overnight to dry.
- 5). Remove the spacers after the adhesive has dried overnight. Mix the grout as directed by the package's instructions.
- 6). Apply the grout to the tiles in a diagonal motion, using a rubber grout float; ensure that the grout is pushed into each joint. The diagonal motion is vital; it pushes the grout into the joints, and doesn't put the grout back up when the grout float passes over the grout again.
- 7). Remove excess grout from the face of the tiles with the rubber grout float and allow the grout to dry overnight.
- 8). Mix 1 part each of white vinegar and water and clean the haze off of the face of the tiles with a scrubber and a sponge.
