- 1). Recycle a used spray bottle to hold your child’s perfume. Bottles that previously contained hair products, cooking oils or nasal spray are often a good size. Just make sure you clean them thoroughly.
- 2). Allow your child to select an essential oil with which she will scent her perfume. Visit a local health food or craft store to peruse a variety of options and suggest that your child mix different essential oils to create her own custom perfume blend. Vanilla, lavender, mint or orange are all common essential oils you can use in homemade child’s perfume.
- 3). Clean a spray bottle thoroughly using soap and water. Remember to clean both the nozzle and the bottle’s receptacle.
- 4). Use an eyedropper to add five drops of essential oil for every 2 ounces of liquid that the bottle holds. For example, place 10 drops of oil in a 4-ounce bottle. Fill the rest of the bottle with water.
- 5). Place the nozzle on the bottle and screw it on tightly. Shake the bottle to distribute the essential oil and mix it with the water.
- 6). Spray the perfume into the air and ask your child to sniff it. Adjust the scent accordingly by adding more essential oil if it is weak or by diluting the mixture with water if the smell is too strong.
- 7). Encourage your child to invent a name for her homemade perfume. Help her write the name on a small piece of paper that will fit on the perfume bottle. Decorate this piece of paper with colors and designs surrounding the name of the perfume.
- 8). Tape the piece of paper onto the perfume bottle using masking tape. Ensure that the paper is entirely covered with tape to make it waterproof. This will prevent the colors and words from running if perfume drips onto the bottle.
