Healthy Eating Plans for Women

    Breakfast

    • Cereal with Fruit

Women can choose from several healthy breakfast alternatives to replace a high-fat breakfast of sausage, bacon and eggs. An easy, healthy idea would be a bowl of whole-grain cereal topped with low-fat or fat-free milk, and served with a side of fresh fruit. If traditional breakfast food is preferred, turkey sausage or turkey bacon provide a healthier alternative.

If your morning routine thrives on drive-thru fast-food menus, smoothies are a healthy but easy way to eat a breakfast on the go. Vanilla yogurt---preferably low-fat or non-fat---blended with frozen fruit, a dash of honey and a banana will make a light and tasty breakfast. If the smoothie is too thick, a dash of low-fat milk will thin it out. It's fine to use fresh fruit, but frozen fruit will chill the smoothie in place of ice, which waters it down. If you want an extra boost of health, add uncooked oatmeal or flax seeds to the smoothies before blending.

    Lunch

    • Salad

Healthy diet plans for lunch can take many different directions. A whole-wheat tortilla or slices of whole-grain bread wrapped around a piece of low-fat turkey and a piece of low-fat cheese will replace a higher-fat sandwich. Lettuce---preferably the darker greens such as romaine---and tomatoes will add to the health benefit. Mustard is healthier than mayonnaise, but low-fat mayo is available, too.

Low-fat canned soups come in a variety of combinations. A good homemade vegetable soup made early in the week can offer a quick meal when time is tight.

A salad can pair with the soup or sandwich, or it can serve as a standalone meal. Add to the nutritional benefit by filling the salad bowl with cucumbers, onions, tomato, carrots, broccoli and avocado.

    Dinner

    • Lean Meat

A healthy idea for dinner would be to serve a piece of lean meat with a side or two of vegetables. A serving of meat is approximately the size of a deck of cards. Chicken breasts are easy to prepare, have a quick cook time, and can be made with a wide variety of seasonings and marinades.
