- 1). Minimize the stereo, music player or TV noise. Maybe not everyone wants to listen to people arguing and screaming on TV. Don some headphones and discover the joy of listen personally without disturbing others with noise. Do not do this if you are riding on a bike on a busy street. Look into some wireless headphones, you will be amazed at the sound quality.
- 2). Keep chatter and cell phone conversations private. Don't yell. If you must have that conversation while you are out, go to your car or go for a walk on a less busy street. Or, teach yourself and others to text message on your cell phone.
- 3). Put some earplugs in from the pharmacy if the noise such as snoring, noisy neighbors or animals keeps you awake and robs you of sleep.
- 4). Put on some soothing music to drown out noise of everyday life or buy a white noise machine. A fan will also work for this purpose.
- 5). Hang wall hangings, decorations and canvas materials on your walls. This will absorb noise and minimize echo in your own home.
- 6). Put throw rugs everywhere in your home, including 2 or 3 in the bathroom. This will absorb sound and keep you warm in winter months. For larger rooms, purchase area rugs. They are decorative and help block out noise and absorb sound.
- 7). Use headphones when practicing an instrument or practice quieter. This will save some of your energy and help others around you enjoy the peaceful environment.
- 8). Ensure any band rooms or halls have adequate carpeting and risers. Many do not and this noise can damage your hearing over time. If you must play in noisy places, use ear plugs to protect your hearing.
- 9). Scope out noise reducers such as fireproof doors and firewalls when considering renting or purchasing a multi-family property. This will work well when minimizing noise.
