4 Bad Habits That May Affect Your Sleep

103 1
Since sleep is the only time for the body to heal, repair and recharge, getting eight hours of it should be on top of your priority.
Unfortunately, for some of us, even if we actually try to go to bed as early as nine o'clock in the evening, we still couldn't get enough sleep.
It could possibly be a result of an illness but most of the time it is just because we fail to get rid of some of our bad pre-bedtime habits.
One of the most obvious reasons why we find it difficult to sleep at night is because our minds are still active due to too much caffeine-intake.
Caffeine found in coffee, tea or cocoa acts as a stimulant that wards off drowsiness, leaving you wide-awake for a few hours.
Avoid drinking coffee-based drinks in the afternoon if you have low tolerance for caffeine.
Too much television-watching and internet surfing at night can also leave your mind wandering instead of shutting down.
Even if you manage to sleep, some disturbing images or scenes you saw on your monitor can creep into your subconscious and result to a nightmare.
It's not entirely bad to watch TV before going to bed; just make sure you choose programs that are not too stressful.
Another habit you would want to get rid of is eating and drinking too much at night.
A full stomach can be very uncomfortable especially when you're trying to sleep.
Instead of resting, your digestive system will work overtime due to the large amount of food you have just eaten.
Having too much to drink at night is also a bad idea; it will result to you getting up and going to the toilet almost every minute.
Keeping an irregular sleeping schedule can greatly disrupt your body clock's functioning.
This type of problem usually occurs in people who work the graveyard shift.
The body is supposed to work during the day when it is light and rest during the night when it is already dark.
When this cycle is disturbed, it can result to difficulty of sleeping.
If you want to improve your nighttime sleep, you have to get rid of these bad habits.
Once you get rid of them, practice putting your mind and body in a state of rest before going to bed.
Make sure your room is set up in a way that will promote a mood for sleep and rest instead of activity.
