How to Treat Lyme Disease in Dogs
- 1). Get a blood test at your pet's veterinarian before starting treatment. Many joint and leg injuries initially are thought to be Lyme's disease.
- 2). Start antibiotic like tetracycline right away even if you only suspect Lyme disease. Early signs include sore legs and feet, swollen lymph nodes and raised temperature.
- 3). Use a natural remedy as part of the treatment. Several natural Lyme disease remedies are on the market to use as supplements to an antibiotic treatment plan (See Resources).
- 4). Keep an eye on your pet for several months, even after treatments with antibiotics. Lyme's can cause joint and nerve damage which is most noticeable in the way your dog walks.
- 5). Take your dog back to the veterinarian as soon as you notice any recurring signs or change in behavior.
