The Directions for a Whirligig
- 1). Cut a piece of paper or card into a circle. You can trace around a bowl or other large circular object to ensure a good circle. Alternatively, you can use a paper plate instead of cutting anything out.
- 2). Decorate the circular piece of paper, card or paper plate with crayons. Anything goes at this stage; kids can color any way they like.
- 3). Mark a spiral using pencil or marker from the outside edge of the circle to the inside.
- 4). Cut along the spiral to the middle of the paper plate and punch a small hole through the middle of the circle with the tip of a pencil.
- 5). Push length of string through the hole and tie a knot at one end.
- 6). Hang the whirligig by the string outside for it to catch the wind. Alternatively, the whirligig can be pulled around outside by the string like a kite.
