Copy images from your "Pictures" folder into the "Wallpaper" folder on your computer. You need to double click on the "C" drive and locate the "Windows" folder. In the "Windows" folder, double click on the "Web" folder and scroll down to the "Wallpaper" folder.

Select an image from your "Pictures" folder that you want to use as your background in Microsoft Vista. Drag your mouse over a group of photos and bunch several photos together to decrease the time spent setting up independent wallpapers in the future.

Provide keywords and other information for your pictures in the "Details" field. Right click on the selected photos, activate the "Details" field at the bottom of the menu and complete each section.

Press "OK" at the bottom of the "Details" menu to save your keywords. You will use these keywords in the future to organize wallpaper and perform searches for image files through Vista.

Activate your desktop by right clicking on an empty spot on your desktop background. Press the right button on your mouse to bring up a menu of desktop options.

Choose the "Personalize" option at the bottom of the desktop menu to set up independent wallpaper. This option, which is found at the bottom of the menu next to a Microsoft Vista symbol, allows you to open up the "Desktop Background" feature.

Scroll down the menu of available sources for wallpaper and click on the "Windows Wallpaper" folder. Your activation of the "Windows Wallpaper" folder allows you to see a thumbnail version of each image available for the background. You can use the "Browse" feature and your keywords in this screen to locate new backgrounds.
