How to Visit Museums in Nashville
- 1). Start by learning all about country music. Visit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, which features exhibits, live performances and historic videos and tunes. Permanent collections include "Sing Me Back Home--A Journey Through Country Music," and you'll find special exhibits such as "Family Tradition: The Williams Family Legacy." The museum is located at 222 Fifth Avenue South.
- 2). Go to the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum for a celebration of many musical genres. Exhibits are divided among cities that have a strong musical recording tradition such as Los Angeles, Memphis, New York and, of course, Nashville. You'll find instruments, awards, vintage posters and more honoring studio musicians and more famous performers. The museum is at 301 Sixth Avenue South.
- 3). Head to the Tennessee State Museum at Fifth and Deaderick streets. You can view special exhibits, plus a range of permanent displays covering the frontier, the age of Jackson, the Civil War, the new South and more. Also, walk across the street to check out the Military Museum in the War Memorial Building.
- 4). Learn about art and have a good time at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. Exhibitions range from famous artists such as Rodin to interesting but lesser-known ones such as Moroccan photographer Lalla Essaydi. Don't miss the Martin ArtQuest Gallery, with its dozens of hands-on areas. The center also sponsors classes, concerts, films, children's activities, family workshops and much more. The address is 919 Broadway at Ninth Avenue South.
- 5). Head to the Adventure Science Center for a different kind of hands-on fun. Just about every exhibit is interactive--from BodyQuest to Space Chase and Adventure Tower, which includes earth science, sound and light, energy and more. The center hosts live shows, planetarium activities, sleepovers and other fun programs. It's located at 800 Fort Negley Blvd.
