Plexiglas Jewelry Instructions

    • 1). Trace a square, rectangular or hexagonal design onto the Plexiglas using a grease pencil and a template. Select the shape you prefer for a pendant or charms. If you are making a Plexiglas pendant you can use a larger template than if you are making a charm bracelet. Squares and rectangles are simpler for beginners to cut.

    • 2). Score one line of the template outline with a glass cutter. Hold the grozing pliers at the base of the scored line, and press down to snap the Plexiglas apart. Repeat this step for each line of the outline of the charm or pendant. Cut as many shapes as you want to make a charm bracelet

    • 3). Drill a small hole in the top of each charm or Plexiglas pendant with a plastic drill bit. Place a piece of tape over the area where you plan to drill the hole to make drilling easier.

    • 4). File the edges of each charm or pendant smooth with a diamond file. Wipe the Plexiglas jewelry pieces clean with a soft cloth.

    • 5). Cover one side of the Plexiglas pendant or charm with decoupage glue using a paint sponge. Place a pressed flower face down into the glue on top of the Plexiglas. The flower can be smaller than the Plexiglas shape but not larger. Spread more glue on the back of the flower. Let the glue dry. Repeat this step for each charm. If you prefer, you can use paper or photo images rather than a pressed flower.

    • 6). Coat the back of the flower and the Plexiglas around it with another layer of decoupage glue. Let the glue dry completely. The decoupage glue will protect the flower and add a glossy sheen to the jewelry.

    • 7). Wrap the perimeter of the pendant or charms with copper tape. This step is not a necessary if the sides are smooth. Copper tape is primarily used in stained glass work, but it can also add a design element to your Plexiglas jewelry.

    • 8). Puncture the decoupage glue over the drilled hole with a needle. Open a jump ring with round nose pliers. Thread the jump ring through the drilled hole on the pendant or on each charm. Thread the jump ring around the links on a chain to make a bracelet. Close the jump ring. To make a pendant, close the jump ring after threading it through the Plexiglas. Thread a silk or satin cord through the jump ring to make a necklace.
