How to Paint Vinyl Pool Steps With Poly 60% Acrylic
- 1). Drain all water from the pool and remove debris.
- 2). Remove hydrostatic relief plug, if any.
- 3). Scrape away old and loose paint from the surface of the pool steps, and use a pressure washer to help this process.
- 1). Cut any cracks in the pool shell ¼-inch deep using a diamond blade saw or grinder.
- 2). Chip out loose cement.
- 3). Caulk the cracks and patch chips with hydraulic cement.
- 1). Acid wash the pool with 50 percent water, 50 percent muriatic solution. Rinse the pool completely.
- 2). Re-clean the pool using a TSP (trisodium-phosphate) detergent. Rinse completely and then pump out all of the water.
- 3). Sponge dry and remaining water.
- 1). Tape the tile band and fittings with masking tape to prevent paint from getting on them.
- 2). Remove any last minute debris or dirt.
- 3). Mix acrylic pool paint for six minutes. Apply paint to pool steps with a 3/8-inch nap roller.
- 4). Apply a second coat of paint after letting the first coat stand for two hours.
- 5). Allow paint to cure completely for three days. Remove any rainwater with a sponge and leaf blower. Add one day to cure time if it rains for more than one hour.
- 1). Fill the pool with water, not stopping until the pool is completely full.
- 2). Restart the filter system.
- 3). Adjust alkalinity and resume normal chemical maintenance.
