What Is a Power Chip?

104 25

    Function

    • Power chips utilize quantum tunneling and thermionic mechanism technologies to generate information about engine power. By picking up heat sources, information is sent to the vehicle management system and a computer makes small changes in engine timing, turbo equipment and the fuel-to-air ratio to increase overall efficiency

    Advantages

    • Because a power chip is only used for sending information, there are no moving parts involved; this makes them more reliable than alternators. Power chips also increase engine efficiency resulting in cheaper running costs, increased engine torque and longer service intervals.

    Fitting

    • Power chips are often fitted as standard on new vehicles but many auto electrical companies now offer them as part of an aftermarket service. Installation is relatively straightforward and any vehicle fitted with an electronic control unit (ECU) device can benefit from the addition of a power chip. As technology has advanced, a new range of high performance power chips have become available which eliminate most major compromises in engine activity.
