Windows ME and Windows 98 Users

• 1). Click "Start" and select "Programs" form the pop-up menu.
  
  
• 2). Select "Accessories" and then "System Tools." Click "ScanDisk" in the pop-up menu.
  
  
• 3). Choose the option "Thorough" to completely check the hard drive. Select the option to "Automatically Fix Errors."
  
  
• 4). Click "Start" and allow the scan to complete. Restart your computer once the process is finished.
  
  

Windows XP and 2000 Users

• 1). Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.
  
  
• 2). Right-click your hard drive, and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu.
  
  
• 3). Click on the "Tools" tab at the top of the window. In the error-checking section, select the "Check Now" button.
  
  
• 4). Select the options to "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors." Each option should have a check mark in the box beside it. Click "Start" to start the scan.
  
  
• 5). Allow the scan to finish completely, and then restart your computer.
  
  

Windows Vista and Windows 7 Users

• 1). Click "Start" and right-click "My Computer." Select "Properties" from the pop-up menu.
  
  
• 2). Click on the "Tools" tab of the pop-up window. Under the error-checking section, click the "Check Now" button.
  
  
• 3). Click "Continue" if you receive a security warning pop-up message.
  
  
• 4). Select the options to "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors." Each option should have a check mark in the box beside it. Click "Start" to start the scan.
  
  
• 5). Acknowledge the message that states "Windows can't check while the disk is in use." Click the "Schedule disk check" button. Shut down your computer completely. Do not use the "Restart" option; it must be completely shut down in order to get an accurate scan. Power your PC back on to perform a disk scan.
  
  
• 6). Allow the scan to complete. Restart your computer when the process is finished.
