How to Make Large Baby Bibs

104 8
    • 1). Make a large baby bib that will cover the entire front of the baby, or fit an adult, by using a large platter as a template. Lay two layers of your fabric out on your work surface. Use either two layers of the same print of fabric or make your bibs more interesting by using two different coordinating fabrics.

    • 2). Place the large platter on the fabric and draw around it using the chalk. Cut though the two layers of the fabric to give you two circles or ovals, depending on the shape of your platter.

    • 3). Use the chalk to make a cut-out mark at the top of the circle. Measure down from the top of the circle about 3 inches. Line up one edge of the plate on the 3-inch mark and make a half circle with the chalk to give you a cutting line for the part that will go around the baby's neck.

    • 4). Cut out the neck.

    • 5). Place the cut fabric on top of a piece of quilt batting. Cut out the quilt batting to match the pattern of the bib.

    • 6). Layer the two pieces of fabric and the quilt batting together with the right sides of the two pieces of fabric facing each other and the quilt batting on top. Use pins to hold everything in place.

    • 7). Thread your sewing machine with a thread that matches the fabrics. Sew around the outer edge of the bib.

    • 8). Trim the seam allowance around the outer edge of the bib. Turn the bib right side out.

    • 9). Fold under the raw edges at the neck cut out of the bib. Cut a two 10-inch lengths of the binding and insert one end of each piece on either side at the neck of the bib. Use pins to hold the fabric in place.

Sew to secure the fabric and the ties in place. Sew along the sides of the binding to close up the fold.
