    • 1). Make a slip knot and chain four stitches. Join the chain to form a ring and crochet 12 double crochet (dc) stitches into the ring.

    • 2). Crochet two dc in each stitch around and join. This makes 24 dc for round two. For round three, crochet one dc in next stitch, and two dc in next stitch, alternating to the end of the round. This makes 36 dc. Join and start on round four. Crochet one dc in next two stitches, and two dc in next stitch, and join to make 48 dc stitches.

    • 3). Crochet one dc in next three stitches, and two dc in next stitch. Join to make 60 dc for round five. For rounds six to nine, crochet one dc in each stitch, joining after each round.

    • 4). Work one single crochet (sc) in each stitch all around for rounds 10 to 16. Join after each round and work carefully, counting the rows correctly.

    • 5). End the hat by crocheting one sc and two chains in each stitch, and join at the end of the round. This gives a fringed look to the edge of the hat. Fasten off by inserting the hook into a stitch and pulling the yarn through to make a knot. Cut off yarn, leaving a short tail. Weave the yarn back through the work.
