Video: What Hair Types Are Best for Afros?
Video Transcript
Hi, I'm T. Cooper. I'm a New York City makeup artist, hairstylist and co-founder of beauty and grooming company, Metro Look. Today we're going to talk about a question one of you recently asked which was what hair types are best for Afros. Typically, Afro hair consists of very tight or even somewhat medium curly hair that's kind of like puffed out like my model right here. She's got larger ringlets but this is definitely an Afro. The hair type that you'd probably need would be hair that's on the coarser side. Typically African Americans but sometimes Latinos or even Caucasians have hair textures that are suitable for Afros. However, just because you don't have curly hair does not mean that you cannot do an Afro, it's best for an Afro but almost anybody can have an Afro. If your hair is not typically that Afro texture what you could do is you could take a very very small curling iron like this and you could just like take your straight hair and you could like wrap it around, wait for a few seconds and then when you take it out you'd have a curl and then you could actually just like finger comb through it and it's going to give the same appearance of an Afro but you need to use a very small curling iron, at least half an inch or smaller. This is a 3/8s but you could use 1/2 inch and do it throughout your hair even if you have straight hair but you have to have hair that holds a curl. If your hair does not hold a curl, forget it, it's not going to happen. I'm T. Cooper and I hope this helped. Thank you for watching.
