Epsom Salt and Olive Oil Bath Soak

    • Epsom salt and olive oil are renowned for their medicinal properties. To make an Epsom salt and olive oil bath soak, mix 1 cup of Epsom salt and 2 tbsp. olive oil for use in a standard size tub. For a larger garden tub use 2 cups of Epsom salt with 2 tbsp. of olive oil. It is not necessary to increase the amount of olive oil for lager tubs. A very little oil goes a long way in a hot bath tub. Stir your ingredients, including any fragrance or essential oil additives, in a bowl or shake to mix in a small container with a tight lid. Keep Epsom salt in an air-tight container. If exposed to moisture, Epsom salt will clump together.

Other Uses for Epsom Salt and Olive Oil Soak Mixture

    • Make a mixture of 1 cup Epsom salt and 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a small container. Wet your skin in the shower. Use a handful of the soak mixture to gently scrub your skin to cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize all at once. Concentrate the scrub on rough areas such as elbows or hands that are itchy and dry from too much housework or harsh chemicals. This works well as a face scrub but use caution not to get Epsom salt near your eyes. Rinse well and gently pat your skin dry with a towel.

    Tips

    • For treatment of conditions or for aromatherapy add ½ teaspoon of essential oil to your soak mixture of Epsom salt and olive oil. Essential oils are very concentrated, so only a little is necessary. Lavender essential oil helps you relax, get rid of stress, and is a natural sleep aid. Peppermint essential oil will soothe sore muscles and invigorate the skin. Eucalyptus will bring relief for sinus problems and headaches. For anxiety, try Mandarin essential oil.
