Roof Racks Ideas for Raider Canopy
- Some products in the Raider family come with roof racks already installed. Among these canopies is the Raider Nomad II. Fiberglass base rails -- which can support a roof rack -- come standard with this model.
- If the Raider canopy you're interested in purchasing doesn't come with a roof rack or rails standard, you may be able to purchase these as optional features. The Nomad II can be purchased with multiple packages that give users roof rack access. These options include Thule tracks, a Thule Aero Rack or the "Rocky Mountain" package, which features a track-mounted roof rack along with a storage compartment. Raider Industries' Vagabond, Phantom and Cobra canopies can also have the Thule options or "Rocky Mountain" package installed as add-on features.
- The website "Pickup Specialties" sells several roof rack options for canopies that were purchased without a roof rack installed by Raider. These options -- which the website notes are specifically compatible with Raider canopies -- include the Yakima Roof Rack and the Rhino Rack. The first option -- the Yakima -- includes four mounts, two rails and two crossbars. The mounts (options include the 1A Raingutter and Control Tower models) can be permanently affixed to your canopy using bolts and a drill; the rails will be attached to these mounts and the crossbars attached to the rails.
The Rhino Rack has multiple installation options: a pad mount, a track mount and a non-track mount. All of these options can be permanently affixed to your Raider canopy, but only the track mount features the rails that run lengthwise on the top of the canopy. - If you don't want a roof rack that will be permanently attached to your vehicle, you have some options as well. Yakima makes mounting towers that clip onto a vehicle's roof or a truck canopy. These mounts can be removed and adjusted as needed, unlike fixed mounts that -- once installed -- cannot be altered. These adjustable mounting towers -- such as the "Q Towers" -- can be used in conjunction with rails and crossbars, just like the more traditional "fixed" models.
- If you don't want to install any hardware on to your Raider canopy, you can use a system such as the one made by "RoofBag." This rooftop carrier can be secured to your vehicle or canopy's roof using straps and buckles, which are looped over the bag and secured on the inside of your canopy (see Resources). The RoofBag is made from an abrasive-resistant polyester, but not all rooftop carriers share this attribute. That's why it's important to always use a standard roof rack system (one that includes rails and crossbars) when using most hardtop and fabric carriers available on the market.
