Quick Summary
- What's Excellent: Evernote is available on a range of devices, includes tons of features in the free version though a premium version is also available. Users get cloud storage space, the amount depending on the plan chosen. The app allows you to create image notes, audio notes, notebooks for organization, and more. Evernote is great for linking several notes to one another. The app also has a cool Presentation Mode without the need of creating slides. If you need to digitize images of text, from business cards to whiteboards, this app can do that, saving you time, paper, and headaches. Evernote has an exceptional app center with hundreds of additional tools you can add.
- What's Not So Excellent: The free version has a kind of offline access, but many users will find it insufficient. Other than that, users could miss features such as comments, chart customization, reference or bibliography tools, accessibility options, sharing to social media, real-time collaboration, and other features. Many of these are par for the course with a note-taking app, however.
- Who Evernote is Good For: The core plan is great for users wanting flexibility in how they capture information on the go, for home, business, or academic projects, who don't need to collaborate in-app with others (but notes can be shared other ways, such as by email). For those who can afford it, I suggest the Premium version, which does offer collaboration options, more data upload (storage is unlimited for Premium or free versions), offline access, more note sharing options, and greater note searchability.
