    • 1). Quilt the three layers of fabric – patchwork, batting and backing – together as desired, and then spread it out on a flat surface.

    • 2). Unroll enough ribbon to cover the top edge of the quilt. Crease the ribbon in half lengthwise to make it easier to apply to the quilt edge.

    • 3). Position the ribbon along the top edge of your quilt so the edges of the quilt fit in the fold of the ribbon and half the ribbon covers the right side and the other half covers the wrong side. Pin it in place.

    • 4). With your sewing machine, sew down the ribbon, using a 1/4-inch seam.

    • 5). Stop the machine 1 inch from the first corner and back-stitch carefully. Clip the thread.

    • 6). Fold the ribbon into a mitered pleat at the corner. Pin it down and sew it in place.

    • 7). Unroll enough ribbon to cover the next adjacent side of the quilt. Crease the ribbon in half lengthwise, fit it over the edge and pin it in place.

    • 8). Sew 1/4-inch seam, back-stitch, cut and then miter the corner. Pin it and sew.

    • 9). Continue creasing the ribbon, pinning, sewing and mitering for the remaining two sides of the quilt.
