Window Painting

• Window painting gives crafters great freedom and variety in window decoration and design. You can opt to paint just a small corner of the window, or use the entire pane as your canvas. In addition, crafters can choose whether to make the window painting temporary or permanent. For a permanent window design, use stencils or freehand paint directly onto glass with enamel-based paint and apply a coat of window and tile treatment sealer, available in most craft stores. For temporary designs, paint with acrylic-based paint and do not use a sealer. Use fewer strokes and a single coat of paint to allow some sun to shine through your butterfly designs, or apply paint in several strokes and coats for an opaque finish.
  
  

Window Clings

• Instead of simply purchasing a sheet of premade window clings and sticking them onto the glass, engage in a fun, but easy, craft activity and make your own clings with window cling paint. This special paint goes on like a regular liquid paint, but when dried, turns into a removable, cling-like plastic. If you are artistic, you can paint beautiful butterfly designs directly onto the window freehanded. For less artistic crafters, tape or hold a butterfly stencil against the window pane and paint between the lines for a neat and polished look.
  
  

Sun Catchers

• Paint-ready sun catchers are easy to do, making for a great craft project for young children and beginning or elderly crafters. Butterfly-themed sun catcher paint kits are widely available in craft stores and come with everything you need to make vibrant sun catchers. These kits contain clear plastic, sectioned sun catchers and colorful paints with which to decorate the sun catchers using any color scheme you please. The paint dries translucent, capturing and reflecting sunlight similarly to stained glass. Arrange sun catchers on the window with suction cups, which are also usually included in sun catcher kits.
  
  

Curtains

• Sewing curtains from scratch requires a degree of skill and a considerable amount of time. If you know how to sew, you can make beautiful butterfly curtains out of butterfly-patterned fabric. If your sewing skills are lacking or you are looking for a quicker craft project, you can easily make butterfly window treatments with ready-to-hang curtains. Purchase a plain curtain set in a solid, light color. Use iron-on transfer paper to print your own butterfly designs, or purchase pre-made butterfly iron-on transfers. Simply iron the transfers onto the curtains and you'll have beautiful, custom butterfly curtains in no time at all. Highlight butterfly designs with a bit of glitter fabric paint for an eye catching, whimsical effect.
