Why You Should Learn Songs and Chords for Guitar First of All
For what reason do you want to learn to play the guitar? You may think that is a durned stupid question to ask but...
Why, really? Stupid or not, it does actually matter.
You may want to be a solo artist playing a classical guitar.
Or you are aiming at the throne of the Heavy Metal Kingdom.
Or...
Like most of us you want to sing and play songs at home, by the campfire or at the pub, or somewhere else.
Once you decide what your purpose is, it determines in a way where to start.
In the long run, of course, you should maybe look into all aspects of guitar playing like music theory, notations, tablature reading, sheet music and other boring stuff.
(oh...
that's just my view of it) So you want to play songs and chords for guitar only for the pleasure of it - have we agreed on that? So now you know where to start, or at least I presume you do.
Studying sheet music? Of course not.
In my opinion, as humble as it gets, you should learn things you want to know first.
I don't believe that there is a "correct" order to learn things.
So if you are just like me, go ahead and find some easy songs and chords for guitar.
It should not be that hard to find more than you can handle.
Start with your favourite artists.
Go to Google, Yahoo, Bing or Metacrawler for example.
Then perform a search for "my artist" chords and lyrics.
Try variations of the search terms to get even more hits.
You also have the option to find sites that specialize in song directories.
The search term "Guitar chords and guitar tabs" should return about 2,000,000 results on Google.
Once upon a time I was there too.
Newbie guitarist with zero experience.
There was a huge difference though, compared to our time.
I had no internet.
I had to record my song on the cassette player, and pick the chords all by myself by listen to them.
Or go to the library for chord books.
With internet everything has become so much easier.
