How to Embed Mp3 in Powerpoint
- 1). In order to embed your mp3 file, we must fool powerpoint into thinking that it is a .wav file! We do this by adding a Riff-wav header. This will simply replace the .mp3 on your audio file with a .wav. Despite this "conversion", the mp3 characteristics remain, including file size.
I used CDex to add the RIFF WAV header to my mp3 files. Once the header is added, set the new ".wav" file aside... - 2). The next step is to add animation to your presentation. In order to embed audio into the powerpoint, it must play with the animation.
The benefit for embedding an audio file into your powerpoint, is that the audio file will be implemented into the same file. Thus, only one file is needed. Using the "Insert Sound from File" option will not embed the audio - it will only link to it. Simply inserting the sound will require both the powerpoint file AND audio file will be needed for it to play properly. - 3
Effect Options
Once the animation is added to your presentation, you can now embed your mp3 (but labelled as .wav) file into the powerpoint. We start by right clicking the animation in the "custom animation" window. A submenu will open - click on "Effect Options" - 4
Add sound - find your mp3 file
When you click on "Effect Options" a new window will pop up. In this menu, click on the drop down next to "sound". Click on "Other Sound". This will open up a browse window. - 5). Now, browse for your audio file! Powerpoint will only show the .wav audio files, so mp3s, wmas, and other audio files will not appear in the browse window. However, since we relabelled our mp3 file to appear as a wav file in step 1, powerpoint will allow us to embed our mp3.
- 6). Once you locate your psuedo-wav file, click OK. Powerpoint will then embed your mp3 file into your presentation!
Happy presenting!
