How to Clean a Craft Pasta Machine

    • 1). While rolling, press a piece of white felt over the rollers to catch clay scraps both with clay in the rollers and empty rollers. Avoid rolling the pasta machine backwards to prevent clay from getting stuck in the machine.

    • 2). Use baby wipes to wipe off all of the surfaces of the pasta machine. Repeat with new baby wipes until the clay color no longer shows on the wipe.

    • 3). Fold the baby wipe in half and feed it through the pasta machine several times. Each time, dial the machine to a thinner level until the cleaner in the baby wipe squeezes out. Wipe up this excess liquid with a paper towel.

    • 4). Wipe down all of the exterior areas of the pasta machine with a clean, dry paper towel. Pay careful attention to the area under the rollers where clay pieces get trapped.

    • 5). Pull the handle off, and unscrew the screw with the small #1 Philips head screwdriver, holding the side cover plate under the handle. Remove this cover plate and use the 10 mm wrench to remove the nuts holding the side panel under the side cover. Do not remove the side panel yet as the footplate on the bottom still secures it to the pasta machine.

    • 6). Using the larger #2 Philips head screwdriver, unscrew the screws on the bottom of the machine, closest to the side with the cover plate removed. Pull the footplate off. Then remove the side panel and the attached top guards, if the machine has them.

    • 7). Wipe the inside of the side panel with paper towels to remove trapped clay. Pull the scraper blades off and remove the clay trapped in them with fingers, paper towels or by pushing it out with a knife. Be careful not to cut into the metal of the scraper blade, which could affect its ability to properly flatten out the clay.

    • 8). Wipe all of the remaining interior surfaces with paper towels.

    • 9). Reassemble by reversing step 3: place the scraper blades back on; reattach the top guards to the side panel (if desired); push the side panel into place, attaching it with the removed nuts. Screw the footplate back onto the bottom of the pasta machine, and replace the cover plate to the side, attaching with the screw. Lastly, replace the handle.
