From the CD

• 1). Change the computer's startup sequence to boot from CD/DVD. To do this, you must enter the computer's BIOS configuration utility. Start up the computer. When you see the prompt "Press F2 to enter Startup," do so.
  
  Once in the configuration utility, navigate to the Boot Sequence screen. Use the arrow and enter keys to make the CD/DVD drive #1 on the list, if it isn't already. Save your changes and exit the utility. Start up the computer.
  
  
• 2). Insert the Linux installation CD and reboot the computer. The computer boots to the CD and shows the Linux welcome splash screen.
  
  
• 3). Select "Run Linux from CD" and press Enter. The installation CD will act as a drive, allowing you to run Linux -- albeit somewhat more slowly -- as if it were installed on your computer. You won't be able to save anything, however; you will have to use a flash drive or other external device.
  
  

Install Linux to Your Computer

• 1). Change the computer's startup sequence to boot from CD/DVD. See Step No. 1 in Section 1 for detailed instructions.
  
  
• 2). Insert the Linux installation CD and reboot the computer. The computer boots to the CD and shows the Linux welcome splash screen.
  
  
• 3). Select "Install Linux" and press Enter. The Linux installation wizard will begin.
  
  
• 4). Follow the wizard's onscreen instructions to install Linux on your hard drive. The wizard can install Linux on a separate partition on your hard drive, making a dual-boot machine, or it can wipe your hard drive completely and install Linux as the only OS.
  
  
• 5). Allow the wizard to finish the installation. You will be prompted for some settings, such as a username, password, and time and location. When the installation is complete, remove the CD from the drive.
  
  
• 6). Reboot the computer. The GRUB boot manager starts. If you installed a separate partition, GRUB allows you to choose which partition from which to boot. Otherwise, the computer boots to Linux.
