Drifting for More Catfish
Drift fishing has always had its place in catfishing. I'm sure that the invention of the boat was what spurred the idea on but my mind pictures something different. I picture a man just like many of us that was just too lazy or tired to drop and anchor that day. Either way, a great fishing technique was invented and today we will talk about this catfishing tip.
Drift fishing is much as it sounds. Your main goal is to use the wind or current to drift around in your boat. To be a little more effective with the technique, you need to position your boat in such a way that the current or wind will push you over productive catfishing areas. In rivers, this attempt is as easy as getting up river from where you plan to fish. When dealing with the wind, you might have to use the trolling in order keep yourself on track. Thats should be an issue. Just focus hard on making sure that you pull your baits over the most productive area of the hole you are fishing. Use everything to your advantage. That includes using your electronics and intuition. The electronics can be used to make sure that you are following a specific structure contour or breakline.
If you have real consistent current, you can lay out your rods in order to create a spread of over 20 feet. Image four rods spaced every six feet apart or five every five feet apart. This allows you to fish a wide area thus covering more water. This is essential to our strategy to catch more fish. Basically my strategy for most fishing is to target active fish. In order to do this, I believe that we have to cover more water in order to put the bait in front of more catfish. Image how much area we can cover this a decent current and 25 feet worth of baited lines. This can make for some great fishing. If you get a few bites on one drift through an area, you should without a doubt do that same drift a few more times. You could catch many fish out of one area, especially when the fish are schooling.
Now that I've shown you this nice and simple strategy and how to use it, you should get out there and give it a try. Odds are you will catch more fish than you normally do. I have consistently caught 20 plus catfish on many outings. Its time for you to do the same.
